Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has issued the official notification for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2026 and Indian Forest Service (IFS) Preliminary Examination 2026.

Candidates who wish to appear for the IAS / IFS Prelims Exam 2026 can submit their online application form from 04 February 2026 to 24 February 2026 through the official UPSC portal.

  • To apply for the UPSC Civil Services (IAS) and Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination 2026, candidates must complete the One Time Registration (OTR) process before filling out the application form.

UPSC Civil Services / IFS 2026 – Selection Process

Selection process for UPSC Civil Services (IAS) and Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination 2026 is conducted in three stages:

Preliminary Examination (Prelims)

  • Objective type (MCQ) exam used as a screening test. Marks of Prelims are not counted in the final merit list.

Main Examination (Mains)

  • Descriptive written examination. Marks obtained in the Mains are counted for final selection.

Interview / Personality Test

  • Candidates who qualify the Mains are called for a personal interview conducted by UPSC. Final merit is prepared based on Mains + Interview marks.

Final Selection

  • Final selection is made on the basis of overall performance in the Main Examination and Personality Test.

Salary of officers selected through the UPSC Civil Services Examination is based on the 7th Pay Commission. The pay scale varies depending on the post and rank.

IAS Officer Salary Structure

  • Starting Basic Pay: ₹56,100 per month (Level 10)

  • Junior Administrative Grade: ₹67,700

  • Selection Grade: ₹1,23,100

  • Super Time Scale: ₹1,44,200

  • Higher Administrative Grade: ₹1,82,200

  • Apex Scale: ₹2,25,000

  • Cabinet Secretary: ₹2,50,000 (Fixed)
