UPSC Civil Services / IFS 2026 – Selection Process
Selection process for UPSC Civil Services (IAS) and Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination 2026 is conducted in three stages:
Preliminary Examination (Prelims)
- Objective type (MCQ) exam used as a screening test. Marks of Prelims are not counted in the final merit list.
Main Examination (Mains)
- Descriptive written examination. Marks obtained in the Mains are counted for final selection.
Interview / Personality Test
- Candidates who qualify the Mains are called for a personal interview conducted by UPSC. Final merit is prepared based on Mains + Interview marks.
Final Selection
- Final selection is made on the basis of overall performance in the Main Examination and Personality Test.

Salary of officers selected through the UPSC Civil Services Examination is based on the 7th Pay Commission. The pay scale varies depending on the post and rank.

Junior Administrative Grade: ₹67,700
Selection Grade: ₹1,23,100
