Selection process for UPSC Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) Assistant Commandant Recruitment 2026 consists of several stages. Candidates must qualify in each stage to move forward in the recruitment process.

1. Written Examination

The first stage of the selection process is the written examination conducted by UPSC. The exam is divided into two papers:

Paper I – General Ability and Intelligence

• Type: Objective (Multiple Choice Questions)

• Marks: 250

• Duration: 2 Hours

• Subjects: General Mental Ability, General Science, Current Affairs, Indian Polity, History, Geography, Economy, and Security Issues.

• This paper is conducted in both Hindi and English.

Paper II – General Studies, Essay and Comprehension

• Type: Descriptive

• Marks: 200

• Duration: 3 Hours

• This paper includes essay writing, comprehension, and language skills.

• The essay can be written in Hindi or English, while comprehension and other language sections must be answered in English.

Only candidates who qualify Paper I will have their Paper II evaluated.

2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Candidates who qualify in the written examination will be called for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST).

Physical Standards (Approximate Requirements)

For Male Candidates:

• Height: 165 cm

• Chest: 81–86 cm

For Female Candidates:

• Height: 157 cm

Physical Efficiency Test includes:

For Male Candidates

• 100 Meter Race – 16 Seconds

• 800 Meter Race – 3 Minutes 45 Seconds

• Long Jump – 3.5 Meter (3 Chances)

• Shot Put – 4.5 Meter (7.26 kg)

For Female Candidates

• 100 Meter Race – 18 Seconds

• 800 Meter Race – 4 Minutes 45 Seconds

• Long Jump – 3 Meter (3 Chances)

3. Medical Examination

Candidates who pass the PET/PST will undergo a medical examination conducted by authorized medical boards to ensure they meet the health standards required for service in the Central Armed Police Forces.

4. Interview / Personality Test

Candidates who qualify the medical stage will be called for an Interview or Personality Test conducted by UPSC.

• Marks: 150

• The interview evaluates the candidate’s personality, leadership qualities, communication skills, mental alertness, and suitability for a career in the armed forces.

5. Final Merit List

The final merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in the Written Examination and Interview/Personality Test.

Candidates who score higher marks in the final merit list and meet all eligibility requirements will be selected for appointment as Assistant Commandants in the Central Armed Police Forces.
